Interesting.
The set screw connection allows for easy wire experimentation.
What wire are you going to be using?
Reasonably priced as well.
Follow Ups:
I'm going to play around with this gold wire that's been sitting in a box for the past 15 years. Don't remember who I bought it from, and don't remember much about it, other than it's a 24k gold and silver alloy. I have a vague memory that it was pretty expensive too. Calipers show it at .025", so roughly 22 gauge. Biggest problem is if the cables come out sounding really good I won't know where to get more of the same wire. :)
Gold is obviously questionable as the best wire for this purpose, but my favorite factory interconnects right now are the Stealth PGS (antiques in their lineup) which use a very small gauge gold conductor, around 40 gauge IIRC. Probably won't get very close to duplicating them, but I have no desire to duplicate the expenditure on another pair of PGS either...
That's funny... I have a full set of Stealth PGS that I've lived w for the past 5 years. So, if I find something better, I'll have 5 pairs available.
I just changed tube amps from 45/2a3's to kt77's and as result- me thinks my system is smidgen darker.
First experiment will be w Neotech AG/GD and then solid AG on the return which someone told me they love. Stay tuned.
Pretty big change from 2A3's to KT77's. Was the 2A3 single-ended, and presumably the KT-77 is push-pull? I do miss the bass slam and control of the last push-pulls I had, but just can't bring myself to give up the harmonic structure and detail of SET to get it back. :)
Please do post back with your results. Be very interested to hear how your creation(s) stack up to the PGS.
2A3/45's were push pull. Loved them. Very refined and neutral w tone to die for. The PGS was the perfect interconnect there.
My musical taste is changing a bit so I got the itch for more power and after much deliberation, decided upon Gold Lion KT77 reissues. So far so good but they are not as linear as the 2a3/45's.
I'm still in the process of dialing in and currently rolling xover and DAC caps.
I would rather clean the garage than roll cables. Experimenting with all the different combinations is a pain in the arse. These connectors will make it so much easier.
The thing about the PGS... despite a very simple design, they have a really good shield. And I usually don't like shielded cables. I'm not sure how to implement that or if it's necessary. I guess I'll figure it out as I go.
I would like to try them as well. Not to many solder less RCa's around.
I'll post back with my impressions once I get them. I have no doubt that the build quality will be impressive....just hope they're easy to work with.
Ordered 4 today. I have a multitude of wire laying around to experiment with.
Silver, copper, Mil Spec, and also ordered some Ag/GD that I've been dying to try. Mixing and matching the two runs w different gauges and metals, etc.. This is going to be fun!
Great find! Thanks.
Keep me posted on your hot-melt glue. Eventually I hope to find something permanent.
