Honestly ... you missed the point. Honestly ... others didnt. Honestly ... you could have easily just ignored it.
Follow Ups:
You assert that others get your point. Who knows but I really do care. Clear the air. What's your point?
Point is ... being honest (with yourself and your response), would you be able to "hear" with your ears ONLY, with no influence from your eyes or wallet IF there were a cable that looked plain, cost little but performed fantastically? Could you hear it as a great cable despite it's plain appearance and it's low cost "saying" that it cant possibly be?
Your agenda is clearly made and I do not miss your point. Your concept is not a new idea in this forum. While you are not openly coming across as a dyed-in-the-wool cable naysayer, your message seems to be that that some listeners tend to somehow become enchanted with the "glamour" of overly impressive "audio jewelry" so much that somehow "magic thinking" is in play, in that visually striking gear can become more desirable than superior performance from a rather dull looking object. Your premise is not audiophile in nature, and an insult to the hobby.
It might be if it weren't true. People buy for alot of reasons, aethetics being one.Buying something based on a recomendation or review could be considered the same thing. So could buying something based on knowledge of the circuit and components, something I'm guilty of.
Probably the biggest reason people purchase one product over another boils down to something that has nothing to do with sound......budget.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Please ... are you really trying to tell me that nobody in this "hobby" has their perception influenced by the price that they pay for or the appearance of the hardware that they purchase? They may not be considered audiophiles by your definition but they are human and it's not concious or intentional. Where this topic is concerned, you obviously believe that flat out objectivity easily and always trumps the complex human psyche. You are above and beyond that, of course ...
Yes, that is exactly what I was asking. I think everyone got that point. I never hid it. You are offended by it. Oh well, so sorry. That said, you dont know me. You assume I am a naysayer in hiding. Wrong. I am on a budget and my cable experiences are limited because of that budget. Regardless, I hear the differences and I use the cables that I sonically prefer in comparing to others I have tried over the years. Again, within my own budget. I do think its chasing subtlety for the most part. Especially with power cables. Regardless, I am far from the cable naysayer that you wish to believe that I am.
That said, you can keep your "audiophile" label. I learned to stop chasing that label years ago. I simply love music, period. I have no wish to become part of a "fraternity" teaming with intolerance, judgement, elitism and disdain. You display most of those characteristics very well.
To make any assumption that anything is black or white is not hypothetical it's silly. I believe most of us would like the best sounding for the least spent. However, there are likely a number of folks who buy with their wallet. That's consistent with all levels of disposable income and consumerism. The easy way out is why stereo mags exist. Don't make me listen, I'm too busy, just tell me what to buy. To infer that a number of us are too stupid to realize value is insulting as are many of your responsive posts earlier.
"Apparently, people now believe that mental telepathy is the foundation of communication and magic is the source of daily events. Consequently, we no longer have to participate in our own lives."
Sorry for my hardcore defense mode -- a knee jerk, attack dog mentality can be too easy to fall back into within this (controversial) forum. Mea culpa.
Cheers, Duster

Frankly, I don't think you're being honest. To answer this new spin on your OP, yes absolutely without question.
No spin. That's all I was asking. I'm done, it's not worth it. Believe what you wish.
