In Reply to: RE: What is the functional gauge of doubling two 22 gauge wires? Buildind a Mac-Mini Power Cord. posted by chopper87@aol.com on December 30, 2010 at 11:24:17
Hey Chopper,
IIRC doubling of wire results in the gauge going down by about 3.
So that would put you at 19g or so. I would think that you might something thicker for this application.
That said, I think the geometry and rf/emi shielding ability would be more important here than the gauge.
IMHO any computer used for audio apps needs a good power cord, and will benefit from such a cord, and so will the system.
And it is a long long story but I did post here about how changing a power cord actually stopped the computer from booting until the cord was burned in. Certainly wasnt expecting that!

Yea, I figured that I would be pushing the lack of gauge here. The frustration here is that I have two VERY good and costly power cables for my IEC connector on my Music Server PC. However, the Mach2 (Mac-Mini) is fitted with a C7 type connection for power. Maybe I'll just purchase one of the Pangea C7 equipped power cords. I really don't want to spend a bunch on another computer AC cable right now. I had a hard enough time explaining to the Wife why I needed to spen $1,500 plus Pure Music on another music server computer. Thanks for any and all advice in this area (computer power cord not the wife situation) ;).
Chopper,
I would get one of the adaptors from VH audio, and use your existing cords.
As to the wife, well I have the same problem. I think there is some school they go to.
I try to always tell her that it all seems expensive but it is much better for me to be listening to music than out at a bar constantly. The odds of me meeting a hot chick are a LOT less with audio as a hobby than almost any other hobby I can think of!
And well you did seem BENT on getting that mac, so I agree with Mrs. Chopper. Personally I think it is a waste and you can get as good if not better sound on the pc side, though your route takes ALOT less work...point and click baby!

Hey, I was seriously voting for, rooting for, arguing for, etc... the at least potentially equal sonic bennefits of my PC music server until I paid for the Mach2. Now I'mm rooting in the other direction! ;)
On a serious note, I did not know that VH sold an AC adaptor for my purposes. I will check this option out immediately.

Also recommend their power strips, built like tanks and reasonable.
Use this with a Shunyata Python, pre helix with magic dust, with great effect. Have 2010 Mini with OWC 120GB SSD and 8GB RAM. Playing with PM 1.72 and AyreWave to a WaveLink feeding a Wadia 861i...getting fantastically musical, detailed and dynamic sounds.
Was worried about going backwards with computer audio versus CDs played on Wadia, but have been blown away by the upgrade in sound with memory play, upsampling older CDs and now I can actually find the tunes versus digging through the CDs.
