I am thinking of having some 3 and 5 foot XLR's made as a baseline to see how potentially higher end cables compare to a basic pro cable in my application.
Has anyone compared mogami 2543 vs. 2549?
Other suggestions are welcome.
This is for going in and out of a balanced 600 ohm preamp.
I am considering thecablefactory.net to put them together, since they claim to take
a bit more care than the average company soldering these. They say they leave the
solder joint stationary for 10 sec after soldering to help it set.
Again any input on who to have build these from would be helpful. Does anyone cold pressure
crimp these, and is that a good idea?
Follow Ups:
Relatively speaking - 2534 (not 2543) is a bit more forward sounding and leaner in the bass. 2549 is warmer up top and the bass is rounder and fuller.
Their overall sonic quality is equivalent. Maybe think of 2534 for tubes and 2549 for solid state. Either is an excellent balanced cable.
BTW, 2549 makes a surprisingly good unbalanced RCA IC. Just tie both twisted leads together at both ends to the hot (pin) connector. Break in time is about 40 hours.
Redco.com will make up a cable for you too, for very little additional cost over the price of the wire & connectors. They made a truly excellent digital cable for me using Mogami 2964 and a BNC and RCA for my Benchmark DAC1. Cost was about $15 with shipping.
Happy listening.
