Hello,
I have NBS Omega I throughout my hifi set-up and I learned that with this cable it does not make make sense to mix it at least with other NBS cables. For instance, when I upgraded my interconnect and speaker cables to NBS Omega I, but left the powerchords for the amp and cd player unchanged (NBS Monitor III) it did not work. I had to upgrade the powerchords to NBS Omega I as well and now I'm in a sonically different league. In the meantime I bought Shunyata's Hydra-8 (which requires a 20A connector) and I'm wondering which powerchord to use between the wall socket and Hydra-8. I would love to be able to connect all components on the Hydra-8, but with the current loaned cable my Krell 300iL int.amp doesn't like; I have to run it separately and directly to the wall if I don't want to loose the dynamics; all the rest is connected to the Hydra-8.
So the question to you is : which powerchord to buy for the Hydra-8 and bearing in mind that I have NBS Omega I ? As mentioned above, I would love to be able to connect all gear on the Hydra-8. Would for instance Shunyata's Anaconda Helix Alpha or Elrod-3 Sign (or Statement) do ? Or should I get another NBS Omega I ? It is a tough call as I don't have the chance to audition any of the above-listed cables....
Follow Ups:
I am completely unfamiliar with NBS cables. That said the VH Audio AirSine (w Furutech Rhodium connectors) works very well with the Hydra 8 and, IMS, bettered a Shunyata Python Alpha Helix.
The Hydra also constricts the dynamics of my amp and I doubt any PC is going to change that.
Mike,All NBS cables sound better if you don't use any power filter of sorts.
at least you know what you would be getting as far as the sound.
mdconnelly mentioned VH Audio's AirSine power cord to be an excellent choice for his original Hydra (see the AA archive search link below). I'm also an AirSine user, and don't expect any negative issues with it's synergy within your particular system. Here's a product review:

I own the Audioquest NRG-2 power cable.I did give the VH Audio Flavor 4 a try. However, I found it to be difficult to work with because is was not flexable at all and sent it back for a refund which Chris did for me with no questions asked. So I'm not nocking him and his cables as I beleive he's on the up and up.What I've found to be the most important thing about a power cord is that it's going to block RFI and EMI emissions comming from your AC power source. After that if you notice something else such as better dynamics and detail then it's gravy.I'm content with the NRG-2 becuase after burning it on my workhorse computor for 200 hours or so I hooked it back up to my CA Azur 640c and noticed improved dynamics. In other words it's revealing eveything that my CD player is cabable of.I buy all my products from Audioquest because they have been around a long time and it seems every manufacture is jumping on the the band wagon.I don't have to tell you how many power cords that are out there now.Try to stick with basics.
if you DIY a flavor 4 you can skip the plastic hose and it will be way more work with.
the airsine is a little bit thick, but quite flexible, and it is sonically superior than the vh flavor 4, silver audio wattmaster, ps audio statement and virtual dynamics nite II.

...is not a correct assessment of why a high performance power cord is of benefit, and is often misunderstood as being such an "active benefit" in it's role. While some power cord products do offer a filtering action, this is not the typical point of high performance power cords, "as a concept". A power line conditioner is more often than not a more effective filter than what filtered power cord's provide. Any "filtering action" that a high performance power cord provides is most often based on noise rejection/cancellation/suppression based on geometry and/or shielding which is not the same as filtering via a ferrite noise blocker or impregnated RF-absorbive material in it's insulation.VH Audio's power cord products are not a "bandwagon product", they are a more *refined product line* than any AudioQuest power cord I know of.
Let me ask you this.Would you buy a power cord from somebody who is building this in a garage or would you buy one from a manufacture that provides a warranty?
I'm sorry for opening up my mouth about a subject that I really no nothing about. My apologies to Chris as I'm sure he is on honest and caring man.I'm basing my assumptions on schooling myself in the field of electronics.I've only been at this for a month or so and learning as I go along.Next time I wright something one this forum I'll make sure I know what I'm talking about and base it on fact.
I accept your apology, Doug.
Why the lowbrow shot about building in a garage? With all due respect, Doug, your e-mails indicated buyer's remorse before the cable even hit your door. You stated that you wanted to return the cable the same day you received it because you thought it was too stiff. Then you e-mailed me and said you had worked things out and were going to put on your computer for a couple weeks to expedite burn-in. You owned the cable a grand total of ONE more day before returning. This was despite my recommendation (and numerous user comments) that it needed proper time to "burn-in", partly a by-product of the Teflon dielectric and insulation used.
Your 13+ e-mails to me throughout this process were responded to quickly and professionally, and in one of your e-mails you even wrote "It's such a pleasure to deal with an honest and courteous person like yourself. It's down right frustrating to deal with other people on web sites who would tell you anything in order to sell their products. I myself do extensive research before I buy anything. It's people like yourself that make the world a better place.
When you indicated you wanted to return it, there was no hassle, and the funds were credited immediately after I received the cable. You had 60 days to evaluate it yet declined to do so.
So other than the fact that you were unwilling to follow instructions on the operation of this product, where's the beef?
For the record, I don't build cables in my garage or kitchen table, but if I did, so what? If you want to buy mass-produced cables made in large factories, by companies with huge ad budgets, that's your perogative. Quite frankly, I'm pleased to hear you will do business with them.
...I'm glad you outlined the transaction. However, based on the poster's arrogantly and ignorantly assuming attitude towards power cords, and his silly AudioQuest King Cobra review; your reply will likely fall on deaf ears. I don't expect an apologetic response...
I truly love hand-built cottage industry products with a "money back if not delighted" guaranty. If Chris VH builds his cables in a garage, I would rather hang out there than in a factory (call me Rock 'n Roll). A written warranty from VH Audio? Chris VH's reputation needs no such time-based promise (do an AA archive search).
i guess chris is more than willing to repair/reterminate his cables (maybe for a small fee) as long as they are not chopped into 2 halves by a hunting blade...

the airsine is an excellent sounding power cord. consider the wolff viola power cord as well - mike makes excellent power cords that match the performance of the airsine.a lower cost alternative would be a new zu mother cord, i am using one right now and it probably can be a giant killer.

If you have a good filter and cables already, do you realy need anything but a hsopial grade cord to your filter?
...choice is just as important as any other audio device. The choice can also made in how it "synergizes" with downstream power cords (and components). To "save money" with the use of a humdrum HG power cord would be a great loss of performance potential :-)
