I currently own a Shunyata Diamond Back that I use on my Black Cube phone stage. I tried it on my DNA 125 and it was quit an improvement. I would like to do something better for the DNA-125. A copperhead is $400. People around here seem to like the VH Audio and I was wondering if it would be a better way to go.
Follow Ups:
...two diamondbacks out of my system for two flavor 4s. the f4s are so much better than the diamondbacks and the copperheads, it's stunning. improvements in dynamics, low level detail, hf responce, fuller midrange, soundstage, imaging and quiet background are quite obviouse.
What terminations are you using? The standard or the gold.
i've got the rhodium fi-25r's and fi-25g's on mine.
VH4 are wonderful cords. We recently tried what you just did, but we switched in some VH AirSines in place of VH4, and the improvements were mind-boggling considering how good VH4 are to begin with. It seems there's always room for improvement.
The AirSine is wonderful, ain't it? It's almost like a Tesla wireless power feed (ha :-). The AirLok dielectric is a very special thing in my experience, as it has little or no sonic signature in terms of coloration that even the audiophile quality use of Teflon and FEP tend to have. I believe that the AirLok dielectric is a major aspect of what makes the AirSine a truly great power cord. "Do no harm" is a major motto of high performance cables, and the unfortunate truth is: Insulation is a necessary evil when it comes to sonic performance...
vh audio symmetry cables sound just like the airsine - open, clean and natural.
i am game if vh audio is going to make a gold label headphone cable for my sennheiser hd 650s.
I currently have had a brand new Shunyata Copperhead in my system for about 2 weeks now. This baby takes a LONG time to break in and I still don't think it has settled down yet.Had it on my Pass Labs Aleph 3 and it was a little more transparent as compared to a 4 yr old PS Audio Lab ll cable with Wattgate connectors but it did not have the "warmth" or the low end "punch" that the Lab ll cable has in spades. Cleaner I would say but less musical if you will.
Switched it over to my EAR834P and in this application, it certainly was more "open" than the Lab ll cable when positioned there.
Still not sure if I'm going to buy the Copperhead. Giving it another week. Will update later,
Regards,
While I can't comment on a Shunyata comparison, a VH Audio Flavor 4 should do very well on a DNA-125. I recommend that you choose either of the gold plated connector options (and not the rhodium plated) if you decide on a Flavor 4 for the DNA-125. If you can afford a VH Audio AirSine power cord, it's a wonderment. I use one on a Bryston 3B-ST (similar price point as a DNA-125) and it offers a very transparent feed, with no sonic signature in terms of coloration that I can detect. While not a pricey amplifier, it's well worth the expense to feed it clean power, IMHO.
I would stick with the Diamondback, exercise discipline, and wait until I could afford the Anaconda Helix Alpha. Skip all of the intermediate steps. The intermediate steps will only set you back (both time-wise and financially) from the ultimate goal.If you get an AHA now, yes, you'll perform gymnastic stunts you didn't think you were capable of. BUT. The AHA also makes a lot of sense, because, should you decide to upgrade your gear, the AHA is right there, maximizing the performance of whatever you use it with.

I guess the point is that I was using the DiamondBack on the Black Cube and would like to put it back thier. So I would have to buy a new power cord for the DNA-125. Should I spend 200 on a DiamondBack or somewhat less for the VH. That is the question. I also want to get another one for my Arcam CD 72. Which at some point I will upgrade. Also I intend to keep the DNA for a long time. I might do one of Steve McCormack's upgrades on it.
I have an Arcam CD 72T with a VH flavor 2 which is specifically designed for digital. I am very happy with it- a full, transparent , but musical sound with especially good bass. I also plan to upgrade the Arcam ( possibily a CD 192 ) but consider the VH flavor 2 such an outstanding value , I would spend any extra money on the CD player rather than another AC.
What ends did you terminate with?
Standard terminations for flavor 1 on VH audio website- I bought them already terminated.
I just got a reply from my email to VH Audio and he suggested Flavor 4 with FutureTech terminations if I could aford the the difference. What is your thought?
Chris VH has forgotten more about power cords than I ever knew but it becomes a matter of budget. IF you can afford the flavor 4 power cord WITHOUT cutting back on your upgrade to your CD player ,then I don't see how you could lose.FOR ME ( with an Arcam CD72T ) it would take a very significant upgrade in CD player to justify the significant price difference between the two power cords.
