I have found that even the jump is not that good. Better dynamics from a good SET with a high sensitivity speaker.
I find it laughable that they dare to claim the tone and timbre of these amps is neutral! Their signature is all over whatever recording you care to play...from dreck to the finest recordings it is there...and objectionable. I had a recent Devialet experience and came away again with the sameness in the end that each recording takes on with these amps. A synthetic sheen if you will.
I refuse to believe that recordings are stripped so bare and that the amp is only reporting the "truth" about those recordings. When I play stuff on my system I get a HUGE variability in the sound between recordings...the poor stuff sounds like that where you can hear the errors clearly. It still sounds like music but limited. The best recordings sound realistic and then there is everything in between. I am by no means an Audio Note fanboy but their philosophy of maximum contrast in recordings has some merit. I don't hear that contrast with either ncore or Devialet (as the two big Class D players right now) and I know that this contrast between recordings exists! That is a fail right there, IMO.
I have heard Ncore 500s...didn't seem fundamentally different to me...
Follow Ups:
SET jump is very setup dependent, but with the right speakers nothing has that realism of attack, so while class-D doesn't do it just as well they do have very good jump, better than most SS amps. Class-D fails , I find on Classical music, they sound bad due to the odd timbre , but if one only listens to electronic studio stuff, you will find them fantastic ..Btw,
Disagree on the devialet, on the Martin Logans i heard them on they had good drive and tone much better than any clas-D i heard before , caveat ..? You have to run them in Mono pr's or forget about it and i did not hear them on Classical music .

The PM 10 sounds MORE like a tube amp..
Does not sound any good via my laptop, Why are there no reviews for the Marantz PM 10 amplifier ?.
They say you get the best of both worlds!
Thanks for the info, certainly an excellent description, its very suprising PA-10 pre-amp section not so good and reviewer finds his own line stage to be a worthwhile upgrade.Very overpriced at £7K IMO , I wonder how many they will sell.

...and came away again with the sameness in the end that each recording takes on with these amps.
That's a good way to put the effect. Homogenized sound.
I agree with you re Devialet. However have you auditioned Marantz PM-10 integrated very expensive £7K. Nord make power amp using Ncore 500 only £1400.
I found another review. WOW!I also see that the Marantz PM10 is now on the market here, Musicdirect.com has them in stock now!

With Ncore modules cheap as chips & latest Mk 3 HDAMS in my Marantz SR 6011 AVR now only £649 ,how can the price of the PM-10 Class D amplifier be worth buying for £7K , I wonder how many will be sold of this IMO vastly over priced amplifier same goes for the SA-10 spinner at £6K.
