Hi All,
I sifted through tons of posts but didn't see this covered. I see these adapters on ebay going for around $10. My local stereo store sells them for quite a bit more. Has anyone tried the adapters on eBay? Most sellers appear to be in the US.
Follow Ups:
I have a pair of female to female cheap ebay adapters coming in the mail.
The application is a tube pre amp out (RCA) to a Berhinger Pro Equalizer (XLR) for sub-woofer duties.
Will let you know how it goes.
I have the BAT adapters, but I found cables wired single ended to balanced sound better (less hardware for the signal to go thru). You may have to pay attention to pin outs. My Atma-sphere equipment needs a specific pin assignment to prevent hum.

Good point!
Depending on the equipment you're using them with, they may "work" but not work properly.
I have a preamp that outputs via (single-ended) RCA, and a power amp that has (balanced) XLR input. RCA-to-XLR adapters result in sound, but I've lost 6dB worth of power in the process. My balanced amp does not make full power when using a converted single-end input. So far, this hasn't been a problem--I get adequate speaker volume and dynamics even losing 6dB.
Thanks for the advice. I guess it's like everything else in the audio world. Try it in an A/B test and see if you like it. At the moment I'm toying with the idea of picking up an original BAT VK-5 from a friend.
bjamz, I will let you know if I go that way. I may buy the cheap ones on ebay, and yours as well to hear the difference.
Thanks for the advice!
I use adapters I got from Monoprice for about 4 bucks each. See the link. In my case, it's to run my powered subwoofer from my preamp, and I sure as heck can't hear any sonic degradation.
Abe is right: be careful to get the correct genders for your needs. I speak from foolish personal experience.
Happy listening,

I have some if you are interested.....will let them go for cheap.
send me a email.....
You can find them reasonably priced on Amazon.com or from pro audio outfits like:
- sweetwater.com
- guitarcenter.com
- bhphoto.com
However, these are not audiophile blessed and do not carry the audiophile tax. Or you can buy the audiophile brands for $100+ / pair. Silly, I know.
Be sure to get them with the correct gender on each end for your particular application.
Silly as it sounds, I have a few pricey BAT XLR/RCA adapters that I bought used decades ago. Good luck!
