and from what I have read, the Hypex modules are modified. The Medusa / Hydra also use vacuum tubes on the input.

I almost auditioned the Medusa at home.
I recently sold my Reference 9SE's and began a quest for tube mono's to drive my Eidolons. I became disillusioned over the cost of the amount of tube power I was going to need. I went to a brick and mortar to listen to a pair of used and overpriced VTL 450 II's. I listened to the Medusa in the same system and it became an affordable alternative.
I ended up happily with a new pair of deeply discounted cool running Carver AT180's.
