I am looking for a recommendation for a pre amp with great sound staging capabilities. Specifically, I would like a pre amp that provides well-defined, palpable images with a forward presentation and micro dynamics while keeping the tube harmonics and bloom. My goal is to keep the cost under $2,000 (used) however I am willing to spend more for the perfect fit.
My system includes Maggie 12s, AES six pacs and Quick Silver preamp.
Follow Ups:
Dual pole dual throw relays for each +/_ pair of spkr wires.
reamote wired at your seat, needs a PSU, and a switch. A LED to indicate just one polarity is no bad thing either.
Note that a post in response is preferred.

I have an AI Mod 3A and ARC SP 16. They both meet your requirements.
I'll put my Mystere CA-21 preamp up against any $10,000 pre.
I agree with ahendler. The Shindo Aurieges is a wonderful preamp. It's very quiet and clean and has great tonality.Piano and acoustic instruments in-general sound more like the real thing than anything I've heard other than another Shindo. The Monbrison is even better but it costs a lot more.
used of course
Wonder how it compares with the SLP 98.
Nope, haven't heard that one...
I thought my C-J PV-5 had it. Can get it reasonably priced too.
What's wrong with the Quickie?? I would guess that would be decent??
Get an AES AE-3, roll the tubes with the best 6SN7s you can for "space", I would highly recommend Sylvania Ws Tall bottles if possible, and you will be all set. You can always roll the 6SN7s to something else if those don't do it for you, there are tons of good ones out there.

VAC Standard LE would fit your description if one becomes available.

VAC has other models too, in many price ranges. I'm running a VAC Auricle preamp with phono stage that I picked up for only $1150, and I'm very happy with it. It's phono stage is great too.
Agreed that the VAC is a winner. I've had one with over a dozen amps and it's been a beauty.
You can't go wrong with Rogue.
I love my Perseus on my Quads.

Audible Illusions 3a - huge sound stage, excellent imaging. Not "forward' though

Don't you mean the Audible Illusions 3d?
description I guess - assuming you don't intend to denigrate

Never actually heard one, but their equipment has a good reputation.
LOL. - 3D / It's close but I haven't found the right glasses to wear with it yet.Seriously I have the 3B and it's a great value for the money especially with the gold phono (mc) board. Head and shoulders better than the Quick Silver which I owned a loooong time ago.
3d.... :))))

Thanks. I started reading about it.
Anyone else have recommendations??
Rogue Magnum 99...four 6SN7 tubes. Very transparent, wide soundstage.
