Hi All,
My first post, please forgive my newness. I have a CounterPoint SA-3000 that is in need of repair, unfortunately Altavista audio Michael Elliot went out of business and I am unable to get a reply from them. Michael has spoken of a San Diego counter part repair tech but I have not been able to find any contact info for them. Here's where I need your help please.
Do any of you wonderful people know of a repair tech that has the SA-3000 service manual and parts to repair the blown voltage regulator with failed Zener diodes and possibly replace the electrolytic caps (16 of them) at the same time? I know it's time to move on but I have invested thousands in 6922 and 6ca4 tubes for it looking for that just right sound. Second question is what is your favorite or good tube preamp in the $2000 ish range that uses 6922 tubes with a phono section that I should get and bury the poor SA-3000, Thank you all so much for your time and opinions, Paul.

A mile from me in Richboro PA is RHB Sound Dezign where they specialize in tube equipment and mods. They do beautiful work and Bob will spend time on the phone with you discussing your options.
He brought my Counterpoint NPS400 back to life when I got it DOA and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the update alas the west coast guy will only service to the San Francisco area.....
I am the person now listed on the Alta Vista Audio website for the east coast. If you want to ship your Counterpoint component to me in New Jersey, I can repair it. I just finished repairing and upgrading two SA-5000s.
I repair pretty much any audio component, CDPs, DACs, preamps, amps, etc. Let me know what you need.
I am also launching my own tube preamp that will be available shortly. Direct Heated Triode, transformer coupled with transformer volume control. Waiting on the final chassis right now and setting up a website.

I think his first name is Peter, check out this thread.
I am in the same boat as you. I purchased a SA-3000 with a blown power supply thinking I was going to have Alta Vista repair it. When I was concidering (bidding) on the SA-3000 I was investigating the Power supply replacement, I won the auction. A week later Alta Vista was out of business. I kind of wondered if the seller knew they were going out of business and wanted to dump it. I am in contact with Plitron Co. that makes the power supplies for this unit, getting pricing ect. They do not do any repair work though, they just supply power supplies.
So thats at least two of us that need someone that can work on the SA-3000. They are a hybrid design so they are not easy to work on....
I have the same problem: burnt poser supply transformer.
When I contacted the Plitron, they require me to quote their product number. Do you know that ?
Welcome! ahab
it is the part #
I can either repair the power supply or build you one if you prefer that option. I can repair almost any piece you have, CDP, DAC, preamp, power amp, etc. I am in New Jersey.
