Of course your own taste may take over, but the 6.1
is indeed intended to be used with the clamp,
glass platter on top, felt mat between glass platter
and metal platter. This way the LP is flattened,
and more or less damped (though certainly not to
the extent an acrylic platter would do the job!)
Note that the TT in the picture is wrongly configured!

Make sure to keep the glass platter always clean,
and preferably give it a brush before each play!

Alternatively, some people may prefer the less precise
Linn/Rega type of sound one gets without the clamp,
and with the felt mat on top of the glass platter.
Now the LP is only partially suported, i.e. it can
flex and move under the force of the cartridge/arm,
while the felt fibers rub against the grooves and inject
nice euphonic colourations :-)
