Re: Grado reference Platnum cartridge,anyone?

I have a PS Audio pre-amp also. With the Ortofon X5-MC and Super MC-30,
the sound is bright on the high end, even more so with the 30. The
cartridge's output is low on the Ortofon, so you have to use high gain
on the pre-amp. I noticed that I could hear alot more of the record
surface noise, the crackles etc. The Grado is a high output cartridge
and requires less gain. The response is fairly even across the board.
The bass is better than the Ortofon. I don't know if it is the gain,
the cartridge, or the stylus that has something to do with how much
surface noise gets through to my ears. What I have noticed is with the
the Grado, I hear less of the surface noise when playing those same
records. The new Grados, I think, has slightly higher output than the
ones they made before. I have not heard any of them yet or even heard
anyone say anything negative about them.
