I understand Daryl has offered to loan you his hearing aids. Also, don't buy classical LPs out of the 10 for a dollar bin. :-) Seriously, what makes CD appealing to some for large scale classical is the apparant improvement in noise and dynamic range. However, the sonic merits of CD end there. When you want some truth in timbre and a texturally rich presentation LP is still the better medium. It sound to me like you just were unlucky and bought poorly recorded material (unfortunately DG is not well recorded or pressed - to bad as they have some of the best performances available on many works).
