Just played this new release and what a joy it is! From the very first note played by Shepp, you know this will be a special experience both musically and sonically. The raw tones on Shepp's sax are so earthy, so palpable that it's hard to envision this as anything but a live experience. Recorded in Paris, these two old timers really display their chops. Waldron's piano, though understated at times, blends perfectly with Schepp's playing.
