That's the kind of thing nightmares are made of. Sorry for your loss.I usually wait until 10 seconds left to post my final bid - that gives plenty of time to hit the "confirm" screen. 1 bid at the end of the auction, high enough that I won't feel bad if I don't win the auction.
Occasionally I make a minimum bid early in the auction if it's something I really want just to make sure it's not so easy for the seller to cancel the auction because of lack of action. I've put high bids on early only to see them eating away by one minimum bid after another during the course of the auction. The Blue Matter record sold for $15.50 I would have won it for $16.00 dollars if I had got my bid down, and if I wasn't looking for a bargain I might have bid $31.62 - and I really wouldn't have been surprised if someone paid even more. Like I said it's a good time for finding bargains.
