I don't know what the AT-ART9Xi sounds like, but Audio Technica's ultra low-inductance cartridges like the AT-ART7 and AT-ART9XA are some of the best sounding cartridges available regardless of price. I own the AT-ART7 and it sounds far superior to my Denon DL-103SA, which is simply a DL-103R in a special fiberglass composite epoxy body. The AT-ART7 has tighter bass, just as realistic a midrange and smoother, more detailed highs. There's really no comparison. Of course, you need an exceptional phono-stage to extract the best sound quality from ultra low-inductance moving coils.
The Denon DL-103R is an excellent cartridge for its price, but the new Audio Technica ultra low-inductance moving coils are competitive with the finest cartridges available today regardless of price.
Best regards,
John Elison
