Nice that the new model includes 78 RPM, although many will scoff at the need for it. When I bought my SL-1200MK5 from KAB over ten years ago, I had it modified for 78 RPM. With that and pitch control, the direct drive Technics is superb for playing 78's as well as LP's and 45's.
The reviewer is probably correct in suggesting the "DJ" look of the new model will turn off some audiophiles and that's really too bad that such misguided thinking exists. When I bought my Technics ten years ago, I researched a lot of "audiophile" belt drives and found them so lacking in features, capability and/or performance as to not be serious contenders. I couldn't be happier with my KAB SL-1200MK5 (and a Technics SP-15 in regular use). Were I in the market, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the new Technics SL-1200GR.
