Presumably plating Beryllium delivers the audio benefits without the health risks to an audiophile consumer of AC duplexes sold by Pangea or Oyaide. I switched to the R-1 out of impatience at waiting and meanwhile took a look at the $225.00 Synergistic Research Blue UEF AC Duplex. That appeared to be a specially- treated, standard $11 industrial AC duplex that was strongly magnetic from front/ back, top/ bottom/ both sides and returned it without installation testing.

Now have the Oyaide R-1 ( $102 from Amazon) described by VH Audio as " totally non-magnetic in order to minimize potential disturbances from magnetic fields. Base Material of the Oyaide R1 - Highly (twice) polished Beryllium Copper base metal, plated with platinum, and then the R1 is finished with palladium plating"

By contrast to my previous Maestro outlet, the Oyaide R-1 grips the wire and prongs much tighter to eliminate most power fragmentation.. Now the music flows effortlessly, the note definition/tone is enhanced, and the pace/ rhythm/ timing goes from occasionally engaging to often being seductive with a new found zest/ charisma. Am grateful to Duster for the Oyaide R-1 recommendation.

So exposed Beryllium may well be dangerous to human health, Lew, but plated-Beryllium as with the Oyaide-R1 is excellent for sound quality. ( I cannot speak to Pangea's new product.)
