I googled ZIF and then took a closer look at the connector. I failed to notice the blue plastic wrap that provides reinforcement to the ribbon cable, just above the connector. So you all are correct, the white connector is mounted to the pcb and the ribbon inserted into the connector. Thanks, again! Let the rehab begin!
