I am glad to see someone as knowledgeable as yourself, is not totally freaked out by this. I have done lots of research on this topic, as well as spending many hours on my system fighting Ground Loops. And, I have All of my Audio Gear with the Ground Lifted. I started with my Tube Amps as I have 115DB Horns. However when I lifted the remaining Grounds I found that the Background is much Blacker and Noise Free with the other Grounds lifted.
And not only is a GFCI is good idea, It is much safer than just a 3 prong Plug. This is per the NEC (National Electrical Code). Addressing homes with older type 2 prong Plugs.
***************************************************************************************
"A grounding-type receptacle that is GFCI protected without an equipment grounding conductor is a safer installation than a grounding-type receptacle with an equipment grounding conductor (if GFCI protection is not provided). This is because the GFCI protection device will clear a ground-fault when the fault-current is 5 milliamperes (+ or - 1 milliampere), which is less than the current level necessary to cause serious electric shock or electrocution"
