The data sheet tells the tale. The type resembles the 5842 and Russian 6C45П (6s45p). It's very high gm and intended for grounded grid UHF duty. I call tubes of this character "in box oscillators". To use such types in common cathode audio service, EXTRAORDINARY precautions against parasitic oscillation are necessary. Of course, the issue of microphonics is present.
IF parasitic oscillation and microphonics can be overcome, the EC86 should be excellent in a phono preamp's 1st gain block role.
