Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

My enthusiasm got the better of me.
I bought a used pair of these beauties to substitute as driver tubes in my Cary preamp. Had a little difficulty getting them into the sockets but they were firmly seated.
Result: they don't work in this preamp. The tipoff was that one of my 6SN7 buffer tubes (EH) didn't light up in the right channel. The left channel buffer did light up. Flipped the buffer tubes and the same problem persisted in the right channel.
Took the Chinese tubes out and replaced the original driver tubes and everything is working.
I didn't do my homework. I had read that these tubes were okay in the Cary preamps. I don't have a tube tester but I have to assume that the tubes are fine but are just not compatible with the Cary.
Anybody have a similar experience?
