I once was complaining to a very knowledgeable audiophile/builder/friend about how microphonic a particular tubes was. He said how do you know it's microphonic, I replied "I was tapping on it and could hear it", but added "I sure like the way it sounds". He says "then quit tapping on it". Never tapped on a tube since!:-) Having said that, I think tube dampers can be a good thing.
