Outgoing QC is a test of manufacturing repeatability, not component durability. A few seconds of reproducing various frequencies is no guarantee that it will last for many years after it is mounted in an enclosure.
The sinking feeling comes from the fact that you are now without tunes until you get replacement parts and install them. And you don't know how long that will take on a Friday evening with a newly cracked cold one in your hand. But in the end, after the planets have aligned and you have rectified the situation, all is good...:-)
