When we were in college 30 years ago, we knew that campuses remained open for summer session(s), athletics, laboratories, research, conferences, and the year-round tending to plants & animals. I went to UC Santa Cruz, and everyone poked fun at me, for not being around, during the summer [1990 and 1991 were in Honolulu, 1992 in San Francisco]. However, one of my dorm neighbors, Ms. Gonzalez, did stick around for the summer of 1990.

Apparently, Johns Hopkins University ran nationwide summer programs on college campuses. These were designed to boost high school kids, expose them to college. For that program, Ms. Gonzalez was an RA that summer.

When the Fall 1990 quarter started, Ms. Gonzalez and I were catching up, and Asia's "Summer (Can't Last Too Long)" made it easy for us to explain what happened over the summer. It was included on their watered-down semi-greatest hits package, Then & Now. "Summer (Can't Last Too Long)" sounded terrific on CD.

Every 3 or 4 months, some audiophile, when talking about music, will come out, and say he likes Asia the band. One guy in particular was upset, that Asia's "Summer (Can't Last Too Long)" wasn't a hit, and continues to wallow in anonymity.
