During he 1991-92 school year, 4 girls, friends of my housemate Dave, lived on the third/top floor of the college apartment building immediately downhill/below ours. Those 4 girls liked to go out on their deck/balcony, and sunbathe nude [in my post below about Sophie B. Hawkins, I mentioned this]. When I visited them, and went out on their deck, what did I see? The rail of our deck. The gutter along the edge of our apartment. The parking lot ways downhill. The trees in the distance. Thus, the only glimpses of the girls' deck were (a) a sharp angle from our deck, and (b) the birds flying at a 45-degree angle. Coupled with the abundant sunny, dry, and warm weather that school year, no wonder the 4 girls spent so much time on their own deck.

Indeed, one fine Saturday during the Spring '92 quarter, I was over at the 4 girls' place. Their living room TV was on, and MTV was playing the video for Ugly Kid Joe's "Everything About You." Featuring an inflatable love doll at a Santa Barbara [the band hailed from Isla Vista] beach, this video was well-known. Appealing to metalheads, the left-handed guitar had a Pushead design. Pushead was famous for designing Metallica's artwork found on t-shirts, and singles.

Apparently, the taller dark-haired girl liked "Everything About You." She sang along to the video, but without any conviction. Then, to no one in particular, she said, "Nah, I don't hate anything about you."

She opened the sliding glass door leading to the deck, pulled her shirt over her head, then stopped. She put the shirt back on, pulled a 180, and, perhaps under the influence of the beach scenes in "Everything About You," suggested that we all go to a nude beach instead.
