Five years ago, I wrote about the Spring '92 release of Def Leapprd's Adrenalize. During this time of grunge, it was one of the few glam rock albums to fare well.

Adrenalize includes a power ballad, "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)," which does not receive that much airplay.

During the summer of 1992, while all of us were in college, we'd be sitting in the bleachers, while playing softball. Someone always brought a boombox. Yeah , yeah, the kick-ass music would fire us up. But every now and then, we'd need something calmer. Between innings, Def Leppard's "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)" was just the ticket.

Now, we all had had our breakups, crushes, and unrequited loves. Somehow, "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)" got each individual to shut up, look past his or her obsession, and see other boys or girls as possibilities, in a different light. For me, that meant entertaining the possibility of ACS or Patricia.

Indeed, when you play "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)," audiophiles shut up, look past their obsessions, and go, "Ah, that's more like it."

Sigh, yeah, it's hard to believe that this is now a quarter century old. The silver lining, if not anniversary, is that enough time has passed, that new generations are glomming onto it. At my daughter's music class, another student sung "Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)" as a slow, dreamy, more jazz-like lounge ballad.
