Vicious Rumors, "When Love Comes Down"

In private conversations, many of you keep asking for under-the-radar popular music acts. Several of you inquire about the Bay Area's Vicious Rumors, who, even at their peak, weren't all that well-known. But they were a conventional favorite, and we saw them many times in the early-90s. VR put in an honest effort, and weren't jerks to us fans.

Moreover, you guys keep telling me that you like and want more power ballads, even if they are merely mediocre. Well, during the summer of 1992, VR's "When Love Comes Down" wasn't all that great, but it nevertheless satisfied us. It encouraged us to put down the sports equipment and embrace each other. Or, it caused our pitcher to take a deep breath, get on her gear, put her hair through the back of the cap, and take the mound.

"When Love Comes Down" was the song we chilled to, as we went around S.F., ventured to Daly City/Colma/SSF/San Bruno, and (some attended Cal) scoped out places farther from the UC Berkeley campus. After morning summer classes or jobs, friends would come over, listen to slower songs like "When Love Comes Down," and take peaceful naps. At night, they even made out to this song.

One of you audiophiles borrowed, and never returned, my original 1991 Atlantic Records copy. Tired of waiting, and in need of the music, I got the more modern Japanese reissue (above).

Some of the friends from 25 years ago still keep in touch. When we hear "When Love Comes Down," it still feels like we're 19, 20, or 21 years old. For the rest of us, the lineups have changed, but original member Geoff Thorpe still carries the Vicious Rumors torch. Check 'em out, and when you need to dial it down a bit, request "When Love Comes Down."
