Joe Public, "Live And Learn"

During the Spring 1992 quarter, Joe Public's "Live And Learn" quickly found its way into NBA arenas, thus turning it into a household name. It was a new jack swing song made up of various samples. In particular, audiophiles recognized, perked up to, and glommed onto the sample of Steely Dan's "Peg." For us college kids, "Live And Learn" certainly got us hopping, as we played sports.

Back in '92, we had no internet or email. So we audiophiles had to wait for monthly audio magazines. Each month, there was a review of a hot new DAC or interconnect. With the growth in computer audio, DACs are still coming out, left and right.

Since "Live And Learn" really is a quarter century old, enough time has passed, that today's kids enjoy it anew, without any influence or bias. But for us audiophiles, "Live And Learn" brings us back to high-end audio's golden age, when it exploded, and became accessible to, and (relatively) widespread within, the middle class (yes, there actually was a middle class). It was a time when generations left mass market electronics, and went into high-end audio.

Sigh, good times...
