There are a few great Vibes players around. Bobby Hutchenson has been around since the 60's and I just picked up his new release called "Skyline" that "swings" pretty much. Its got great players on it: Kenny Garrett on Sax, Geri Allen - piano, Christian McBride - bass, and Al Foster - drums. Gary Burton is another one who has been making music since the '60s. His earlier works with Keith Jarrett are fantastic, and I love his "Reunion" release with Pat Metheny. Theres Lionel Hampton, who probably is more swinging than either of them, of course. My personal favorite vibist is Mike Maineiri, who I first heard playing with the Brecker Brothers in the group Steps, and on their "Blue Montreux" releases, then later on his own solo releases and with the Steps Ahead group. I'd recommend his "American Diary" which features Joe Lovano on sax, or any of these Steps Ahead releases: "NYC", "Vibe", or "Yin-Yang". They're more hard driving than swinging, but the tone and playing of his vibes is fantastic. If you like the vibe sound you'll love these.
