Who can say one guy's music must be more meaningful to a listener?I can say this, however: Beck, Hendrix, Lennon and hosts of others have written, played, and interpreted music that is beloved by generations of people. Emmanuel? No, not really.
John Fahey was a brilliant, innovative, and highly influential guitarist that I had the pleasure of hearing, both when he was a young firebrand and when he was a wasted old man (I saw one of his very last--- if not the very last--- public performances in a tiny bar in Eugene, Oregon-- he played music such as I'd never heard before or since, truly original and beautiful).
As far as guitar heroes, like Emmanuel: I think Roy Buchanon, if speed is the criteria, equals or surpasses him---- and the music does, too.
