In the past, I have had some luck with getting a release production info from a reissue company.
Well, my rule of thumb is based on my experience. I had a much better luck with Japanese remastered CDs ( XRCD for example ) but so far no home run on LPs when it comes to repressing of Western music. Production value is always high but they seem to re-EQ the balance to their taste.
