I think there was variety on previous albums that's completely missing here on the new one. It's all at the same energy level and there are no instrumentals. I'm sure it will grow on me, but at this point i think it's weak compared to previous efforts. A lot of the rhymes are forced.On the other hand the humor level is off the charts. You can't help but laugh when Ad-rock claims to be known as sharp cheddar after MCA does a rhyme about gorganzola and provalone.
mixmastermike is more authorative on the scratching compared to Hello Nasty, but I still much prefer hurricane. Especially on the track "Hey Fuck You". MMM just lacks all authority at the microphone. I saw the bboys last week here in the bay area and it was a real letdown to hear Mxmastermike call out for each of the bboys to "come and rock the sure shot". They should get rid of that guy. He's a technician and has no feel for authorative beats and syncopated rhythms. He gets lost constantly during performances.
Surprise: I didn't find it mixed all that well. That's normal, of course. The voices sometimes get lost even worse than usual, unfortunately.
Current favorites are "Letter to NYC" and "Shazam".
