I am amazed at the ingenious combinations my friends have come up with. Of course since the speaker is the main determinant of good sound, I guess spending most of the 1400 on speaker makes sense. If KEF 50 is as good as in the reviews, then the powered KEF takes care of the amp and the problem of low sensitivity. The laptop with the little DAC ( I have replaced the black with the red one) at the USB connected wirelessly to the KEF is a great system. I have heard great sounding systems of Rega Brio with Golden Ear 7 and a Marantz PM 75 with Monitor Audio SX6.
Since I enjoy the source plugged into my humble but proud Tivoli a lot now, I should be very happy with the systems mentioned in the posts. Thanks.
