If you can "compromise" on the source and perhaps the amplification, consider the following: If you only listen to streaming, digital media that can be played by a PC, you can get very high quality even with a cheap PC or even (in my opinion) a cell phone, android tablet or even something like An Amazon Alexa Echo Dot ($20 when they were on clearance). Cheap amps can be had well under $100, sometimes < $50, power supply included. Conceivably, you can have your "electronics" well under $200, maybe even < $100. Those are "new" prices! So you have up to $1000 for a pair of speakers. I won't even make a recommendal here, but two general bits of wisdom: (1) It's generally agreed that speakers, by far, are the single most important component in your audio system; (2) there is a huge assortment available, both used and new.As a bargain case, consider my bedroom system: the source is that $20 Alexa Dot, optionally serving as a Bluetooth receiver to my cell phone for other streaming audio that Alexa can't provide; the amp is a chip amp with power supply, maybe $50. The speakers are a pair of Infinity Reference 5, bought for about $35 at a thrift. They needed minor repairs (speaker surrounds); I did a half-assed DIY repair that is not perfect, but is faultless at less than disco volumes. All told, perhaps $100 total.
