Speak to the guy by phone and see how you feel. Ensure you have his postal and email addresses, etc first. If you're happy he's not a fraudster, send him an invoice and suggest he sends a deposit up front, then send the item (with tracking) and collect the balance on delivery.
In any non face-to-face transactions there's an element of risk and this should be shared. Relying on Paypal is not good particularly for the seller as others have illustrated (and me too) as the buyer is automatically given the benefit of the doubt with Paypal removing the entire value of the sale from your account. Unless you, as seller, can either come to an agreement with the buyer, or convince Paypal the buyer is a scammer, not only do you lose your money, the buyer can retain the goods!
Don't even take a deposit through Paypal as the money isn't yours if subsequently challenged by the buyer. Ask for a transfer into your bank account.
I recently sold a pair of speakers for £10K by deposit - dispatch - balance and all was good for both of us, but we had conversed a few times and were both satisfied that we were honest traders.
