Early on some sellers tried to convince me that's the way it was supposed to be. IME, here in AZ. it was rare to find a hifi dealer who sold good sounding systems until the mid/late 90s - seems they needed some way to justify why the more expensive gear they sold you sounded worse. That period when Stereophile bowed to HP was the most dismal in all the history of audio. What's most sad is the number of folks with mid fi gear regurgitating that garbage to explain why their systems often sounded like poop. This is a funny hobby, people would take that crap, believe it was great, and defend the bad sound because they were taught that was the way it was supposed to be.
