Some turntables adapt to the different frequency by changing the diameter of the pulley on the motor shaft. I don't know if this is the case with the VPI, but if so this might be an inexpensive change.
There is also a "VPI turntable power line conditioner". That might do the trick. (This has a variable oscillator to allow multiple speeds and speed adjustment.)
