Those routers carry a LOT of other traffic besides my signal so it is not unreasonable that there is an occasional pause while a router gets other traffic out of the way before it gets to your next packet.
Obviously there are a lot of factors well outside of your system (and your control.)
The OP's type of problem can usually be solved by adjusting the buffer on your software. It saves up the packets as they arrive and then dispenses them to your player in a steady fashion.
