RE: Gungnir multibit 5 vs yggy analog 2

Hi,

I had the latest revision Gumby, B serial number for about 2.5 years. Back in January I upgraded to the latest Yggy A2 so I have first hand experience with them both.

I bought the Yggy used because the wait for a new one was over a month, so mine was already broke in. I left it plugged in and let it warm up for a few days before listening for any differences between them. Both Gumby and Yggy had identical VH Audio flavor 4 power cables feeding them, and plugged into the same outlet.

When I first went to compare them I didn't hear any difference, I thought oh crap why did I spend the extra $? The house sound between them is very close. After more time and careful listening I heard the differences.

Bass on Yggy is deeper and tighter, Yggy is also more dynamic.
Again on the Yggy more 3D of instruments having more of their own space, more depth.
Blacker background on Yggy.

Narrower soundstage on Yggy? I didn't read anything about that, nor do I recall it being any narrower. I have since sold my Gumby so I can't go back and compare now.

Is the Yggy richer than the Gumby, tough call? To me perhaps ever so slightly.

Is the Yggy a big step up from Gumby? One persons big difference is another persons tiny difference. To me though it is a slight incremental difference, not a night and day revelation. After being able to use both side by side for a few days I was happy enough to sell the Gumby and keep the Yggy. I think the Yggy is truly a great DAC and being of the age that I came from an analog world.

I wrote this in a previous post "I will say to me the biggest compliment I can give the Schiit DAC's is that they are the most like my analog front end."

I am still using and enjoying my Yggy and I have no plans at this time to replace it or attempt to upgrade.

Note that I do not use USB on my system, so all comparisons were done on coax inputs, RCA and BNC.
