you can use usb power, that's what I started with. It comes with 2 USB cables, one for power with a tip and one for data with a micro USB. Since I use battery power from an Anker charger ($25 if you don't already have one) it only occurred to me a few days later that the charger has 2 ports, so I plug my RPi into one and the E30 in the other rather than taking power through the RPi. It worked both ways and I can't say it sounded any different.
I have a linear 5v supply that I haven't tried yet, an iFi iPower, and a whole bunch of generic switching supplies. I'll give them all a try at some point but battery was my preferred method when I used an Allo Boss on my Pi.
