Another winner -Charles should write a short book on the tech-history of digital, starting with custom filters in the late 1980s.

And HDCD was NOT the only format to fool people. So did Sony, making us think that DSD was a 1-bit system (in practice). Problem is it was 5-8 bits right away -meaning it decimated and oversampled. (2) things we were told it would not do. DSD was just a low-bit PCM system.

And extreme sampling rates. Whoops ! Mikes don't have sensitivities beyond 25khz, at least those used by audiophile labels.

Can't dither an (ADC) 1-bit path.

Sonny never provided recorders sampling at 192khz or beyond. (Maybe these exist now -but are rare, I think and expensive).

Even though DSD is mostly gone, we're still suffering -aren't most ADCs used today hybrid delta-sigmas ? Some labels never used these -they stood with 20-bit recording. But how many are there ? How many, in my view, are doing it right ?
