I've tried different combinations of Toslink vs. coax and found the nicest sound from my CD/DVD transport (Sony S7700, a gem!) comes via TOSLINK. (Interestingly, the sweetest computer audio comes via coax from my DDC). There's a meaningful difference, but please consider the level of sonic achievement we're dealing with is fairly modest, my serious interest being in my vinyl front-end. I'm using a Monoprice "premium" (like $9 instead of $4- Ahhahaha...) Toslink now but need a new cable and want a decent one.
Is current thinking that the best performance comes from from glass-fiber cable?
Are there any significant issues regarding the connectors?
I was considering the "Lifatec" Silflex glass, a firm somewhat outside the audiophile loop, link below. They make stuff for medical and scientific instruments that looks high-quality at a reasonable cost(like around $75 / 1m)- anybody hear these in action?
