I have had similar expereince recently with the new iteration of the Zu Birth. The backgrounds have never been blacker, the bass is cleaner and faster, and the stage has also widened. Am using it on the MF Trivista DAC, Pioneer DVD (transport slave), and an ML Depth subwoofer.
Not bad at all for an el cheapo powercord. The build quality is also superb.YMMV.
