DIY speaker cable

Newbie trying different speaker cables. Interested in Dick Olsher suggestion in his Y2K article for enjoythemusic. He suggests using 14 guage solid copper; 4 runs (2 of each color.) Question - is this 4 runs for each speaker or 4 runs in total for both speakers? thanks
