Pranawire Maha Samadhi, Part 10

"Damn it, Lummy," lamented an Inmate, "Just one of those [$5,450] Pranawire [Maha Samadhi] powercords costs more than a lot of systems."

Well, in the mid-to-late 2000s, when I was working in San Francisco, my colleagues and I had 5 or 6 of the Maha Samadhis. They were here, to be properly conditioned on an audiodharma Cable Cooker.

In 2007, it seemed that all of my friends, including my wife, were pregnant. If you know anything about my friends, it's that they have long loved going to hot tub/cold plunge/sauna spas. But when you are pregnant, you have to refrain from going to these spas.

At the end of 2007, one of our favorite bands, Queensryche, came out with Take Cover, you guessed it, an album of covers. We liked their pared-down version of Pink Floyd's "Welcome To The Machine." The song is about greed and the record industry.

Better than a cold plunge, we had our Maha Samadhis cryogenically treated. If you compare an untreated Maha Samadhi to a cryo'd one, the latter will sound quieter, as if some lint, haze, or fizz has been removed. With this noise removed, the component connected to the cryo'd Maha Samadhi can reveal more of the low-level details, nuances, harmonics, decay, and flow. It's like the sauna getting very quiet. Your friend can more definitively "feel" your vibe, "taste" your tears, "smell" your murmur, sweat with you, breathe in while you breathe out, and gain access to your thoughts.

In high-end audio, the audiodharma Cable Cooker machine is our MVP. Its designer, Alan Kafton, has long suggested that, after a cable has been Cooked, it will subtly lose some of its "charge." Therefore, after perhaps a couple years, the previously-Cooked cable should go back on the Cooker, for a "recharge." After a couple years or so, a Cooked Pranawire Maha Samadhi will sound a tad soft, limp, and blended (but still superior to an untreated Maha Samadhi).

I've had my Cable Cooker since 2003. It has treated cables, whose new retail prices would total over $1.5M. In our vast experience, the Pranawire Maha Samadhi is the product, which benefits the most, from a "recharge." Now, you don't need a lot of extra Cook time. Just start with three hours - enough time for you to have another audiophile over, or for you and a friend to go to a spa. That will firm up the bass, restore treble extension, and prevent the images from running or melting into each other.

This makes sense. We've brought in cables, which hail from the late-80s and early-90s, [shown here is an AudioQuest Quartz, which I originally bought in April 1991, when we were listening to Queensryche's Empire] meaning they've been used for some 30 years. But a mere three hours on the Cable Cooker vastly outdoes what 30 years of regular playing time does (or does not) do.

Your friend greatly influences, if not dictates, how your spa experience goes. The Pranawire Vajra is all about moving AC from outlet to component. So you always have that eager friend, who quickly ditches her clothes, turns on the hot tub's jets, and jumps in.

The Maha Samadhi relishes the experience. This friend methodically removes and folds her clothes. She appreciates showering off, and then eases into the hot tub, whose jets are off.

"Damn it, Lummy," writes the Inmate at the top, "An audio system might cost more than one of these expensive powercords, but how many of us have a single component costing that much?"

So it all comes down to the component. If it is accurate, balanced, incisive, transparent, and self-effacing, the Vajra will be copacetic.

But if your component could use treble extension, and you like flow and grace without slowness and boredom, the Maha Samadhi could be your ticket. As with all cables, ensure that the Maha Samadhi has been properly treated. And don't forget to "recharge" it for a few hours, every couple years.
