RE: further progress with my USB prototypes

Nice work, paco. I recommend a somewhat tedious method to improve the performance of the DC run, by tightly twisting the conductors, then wrapping them with heavy-duty Oatey FASTape PTFE Teflon tape, which is easier to do than via the regular white colored PTFE Teflon tape that's very thin and takes forever to properly wrap a cable assembly. The Teflon tape wrap is an effective way to mitigate cable resonance issues of an unjacketed hand-twisted pair, IME. It also keeps the two conductors firmly coupled together, along the entire length of the cable without gaps and spaces between the conductors. I like to use it instead of heatshrink in most cases.

The heavy-duty Oatey FASTape is also a very useful tool for various other cable building projects, including making a custom strain relief that resembles a molded type strain relief. I also use it to insulate the inside of various connectors such as a small DC plug to avoid the contacts touching each other. Many other cable building issues can also be addressed with the product. My favorite so far is not using the heavy barrel of a 6.3mm stereo headphone plug, and creating the equivalent of a molded plastic connector, but with a much better dielectric and vibration damping qualities. Medical tape is also a good tool, but that's another story.
