The most straightforward option I can think of is to find-out what size/type thread is involved by taking one of the cables to a well-stocked hardware store to determine the matter. Then purchase some brass spacers/standoffs to screw onto the modular connector bases. This will create a rod that is long enough to secure a set-screw type speaker cable connector onto the brass rod. Not ideal to have the rod as an additional conductive interface, but at least the connectors would be mechanically functional, viridian.
