If you follow the philosophy of the late Allen Wright (Vacuum State Corporation) the ideal interconnect (or internal wire) is the smallest diameter that can adequately handle the current requirements.

Solid vs Stranded is a bit more complex in my experience. Both have their merits. Individuals should explore both and decide, and note also that a component change can change the cable synergy, so you may find yourself going back to "the dark side" in the future.
